I lied about my salary history during the interview and now they want to see proof of salary for the past 3 years before hiring me. Will I get caught if I falsify salary documents?
What companies consider when selecting board members
You might fake them, they might still send a reference to your former employer, and as part of the letter sent to HR, they might simply include language like this, as many companies do: “So-and-so said he or she earned approximately $X. Does that seem accurate? Or is it?” When they find an inconsistency, they’ll fire you.
And it takes a lot of effort, both mental and physical, on your part to keep the lie going, because you’re going to slip along that line; you’re going to slip. This is the smarter approach. BTW, the smarter thing is that one of the reasons they ask for a three year salary verification is that they smell crap because they probably know how much the company pays people in your position based on previous experience.
So all you have to do is: “I’ve been getting paid for a while. Frankly, I wasn’t paying attention and when I told you I made such and such money, I misspoke. I actually made this much money. I apologize for the inconvenience and I admit I made a mistake.” This is probably the easiest way to go. Then you provide them with the documentation.
