I have another hedge fund brainteaser for you. This is a math problem that requires a bit of logic…not that difficult.
A 10 x 10 x 10 cube is painted red on the outside. It consists of individual 1-inch cubes. How many cubes have red paint on them?
The first premise is that all cubes on the outer surface are painted, and there are a bunch of one-to-one corresponding cubes without paint. If you think about the second one, you’ll see that there’s an 8 x 8 x 8 cube inside (either individual cubes measure up to 8 x 8 x 8), which means 512 cubes without paint. This means there are 488 areas with paint, as they provide the perimeter to the inner cube.
