What ultimately drives people to choose one job candidate over others when their qualifications are all similar? There is a keyword in the question that can help you see the difference.
What companies consider when selecting board members
Ultimately what makes a recruiter (or not a recruiter make a choice) what makes a hiring manager choose one candidate over another when all candidates are similarly qualified? I love this question, and I love it because, frankly, they’re not equally qualified; they’re similar. So, what differentiates one from another? Psychologically, closer to the needs of the position, the hiring manager may make decisions about things that make them say, “Oh, I could use this.”
Personality – you know, just the connection with the people there. Now I could go on a long diatribe about how false this is because they are well behaved and so are the candidates. So, your connection is based on your behavior – you know, the personality you’re projecting at the time – which can be a little stressful, can be a little high because your adrenaline is going up and they’re tricking you to try to get you interested. This is not an ideal situation, but let me go ahead and explain why they choose one person over another.
Well, hiring managers select people because of their abilities. They show confidence, character, chemistry, and maybe a little charisma. The point is: Ultimately, the difference between one person and another is that the manager trusts them more. Along the way, you have to build a connection with a person so that they trust you and believe in you. Your sincerity becomes crucial here, so the person is likely to do a better job, and not just in skills. Because, you know, we’re talking about people with similar qualifications, right? So there are some other criteria that we have to meet, which is personality and how they generate trust. So, recognize that that’s a differentiator and when you’re interviewing, always, always look for ways to connect with people.
My resume makes me look like a job hopper. How can I solve this problem?
