There are so many places on earth to travel to. . . ?

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
The complete question is, how many points on Earth are there where you can travel 1 mile south, then 1 mile east, then 1 mile north, and finally reach your starting point?
This is an interesting question because most people start with the answer
Arctic. Think of the Earth as a sphere. You could start at the North Pole and go 1 mile south, then 1 mile east, then 1 mile north and then want to see the back side of the North Pole.
There’s another set of places where it can also come into play.
Imagine that at or near the South Pole, you could circle the Earth in about 1 mile. You can start 1 mile north of that point, then go 1 mile south, 1 mile east, then 1 mile north, ending up at the same location where you started.

The secret to doing this is that there are countless places where this can work. It’s not just one point, because remember, we’re dealing with a sphere. It is round. You can eventually do this from any point 1 mile north of the Earth’s circumference.
Within the circumference of 1 mile, we consider another half mile. If you start a mile north, you can drive a mile south to get there, then circle the globe twice, then go back north and end up in the same place, right?
The same thing is true. There are countless ways this could happen.
Frankly, this answer holds true for anywhere within a one-mile radius of the Earth, for any point within that circumference.
The answer is, “The Arctic and countless options allow you to do just that.”
