Decide if this is right for you

A woman wrote to me asking if I thought the job would be right for her. This is how I told her she could assess herself.
Give me a good reason why I should increase my offer?
I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter, and the head coach of JobSearch.Community, a website that provides curated information you can watch, listen to, or read that will help you find a job faster.
So, the first thing I want to say is, you have to ask yourself this question: What is most important to me in my next job or organization? What do I need to see or hear to believe this is the right choice for me? And, in this case, she was probably recruited through LinkedIn or an employee recommendation. It’s unclear, but they contacted her. So they found a resume online and contacted us.
So, in an interview, once you know what is important to you in your next job or organization and how to evaluate it, all you can do is dissect the proposed position and their expectations. Now, I know from what she wrote, I haven’t said she was interested in the job, but was concerned that their expectations were beyond her capabilities since she had other responsibilities. So when you get to the offer stage, when they make an offer to you, you have to…. . . I suggest you go out there and try to win the job and get as much money as possible, and then pause and say, thank you so much for the offer.
I want to talk to you about something. Then you start talking about your expectations and requirements. If they withdraw the offer or say they can’t fulfill the requirements, that’s all we need so you can make the choice that’s right for you.
What often happens is that inexperienced candidates enter a people-pleasing scenario and try to win the job without fully dissecting whether it will be a good fit. This is indeed what happened to this man. She continued the interview.
It’s been more than seven years since she last gave an interview. She’s doing great! surprise! Now she’s starting to think, maybe I have to change jobs since I already got this job, but I’m not sure. . . Or I receive this offer but am not sure if it is right for me. So, don’t simply accept a job just because you’re offered it.
Of course, you have to structure compensation and benefits because you have other responsibilities. You have to see if it meets your needs and you have other responsibilities. If they expect you to work 60 to 70 hours a week, that’s unreasonable, right? Therefore, rejection is appropriate.
Now, I want to remind you that the most important thing here is that you perform well in the interview. You have something this company wants to buy. So you have some leverage here.
I would wait until you get the offer because I want you to be able to practice more because obviously, because you are tempted by this situation, there may be other things that come up. So this is a practice scenario for you to practice saying some of the things you need to say to make sure that you perform well after the interview as well and that it doesn’t happen by accident. Likewise, you need to know what’s most important to you in your next job organization, and what you need to see or hear to believe it’s a good choice.
Once you receive an offer, be able to have an honest conversation with them to ensure they can deliver. So, I hope you found this helpful. I’m Jeff Altman.
