Art Basel Hong Kong announces 240 galleries to participate in 2026 fair

The exhibitor list for Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 remains largely the same as last year’s list, with a few new exhibitors and some conspicuous absences.

The 2026 exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from March 27th to 29th, with a total of 240 galleries from 42 countries and regions participating; preview days are March 25th and 26th. The number of exhibitors remained stable from 242 last year. The gallery section will include 182 exhibitors. More than half of the galleries have spaces in the Asia-Pacific region, including 29 in Hong Kong.

There are 32 first-time exhibitors from countries and regions such as Australia, Japan, Turkey, France, Germany and the United States. These include A Lighthouse Kanata (Tokyo), The Commercial (Sydney), Pilevneli (Istanbul), Uffner & Liu (New York), Galería Casado Santapau (Madrid) and 1 Mira Madrid / 2 Mira Archiv (Madrid).

At the same time, some 33 exhibitors who showed in the gallery section at the last edition will not be present. Some have closed, such as Blum, Clearing, Kasmin (the gallery’s successor, Olney Gleason, is not participating), One and J. Gallery, Peres Projects and Venus OverManhattan. At least one has been acquired: Millan by Almeida & Dale, which participated. Other stores not yet signed but still operating for 2026 include Acquavella, Balice Herdling, Bortolami, Galeria Isabella Bortolozzi, Thomas Dane, Francois Ghebaly and Michael Werner.

The new exhibition area Echoes will display works created in the past five years. The 10 booths will include Max Estrella in Madrid, which displays Tiffany Chung’s embroidered spice route maps and Miler Lagos’ engraved book sculptures; and Double Q Gallery in Hong Kong, which displays immersive spatial installations by Polish artist Natalia Załuska.

The Encounters section will host large-scale installations, sculptures and performances and will be led by four curators: Mami Kataoka, director of the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, will lead a team consisting of Alia Swastika, a Jakarta-based curator, researcher and writer, Isabella Tam, curator of visual arts at M+, and Hirokazu Tokuyama, senior curator of the Mori Art Museum.

This time, media artist Ellen Pau oversees the film program, the first time an artist has taken on this responsibility, while Venus Lau, director of the MACAN Museum in Jakarta, oversees the dialogue program. For the fifth consecutive year, Art Basel and M+ Museum will jointly commission a public artwork for the museum’s facade, which will be presented by UBS. This time, Pakistani-American artist Shahzia Sikander will create an animation based on her watercolor works.

First-day sales results last year were mixed, with blue-chip galleries pre-selling many works or putting them on hold, while smaller and mid-sized galleries were slower to perform. This narrative is more or less consistent throughout, and art news Rate the week’s auction results as “lackluster.” With the market showing signs of rebound, dealers hope to build on the energy that marked last month’s third edition of Art Basel in Paris, which Paris consultant Francesca Napoli called the most successful show to date.
