When an employer asks you why you entered the job market, it’s safe to say that the role you’re currently in isn’t what you were hired for (because of COVID), nor was it presented to you in the right way, so you want to do something more in line with your skills and/or what you thought you’d do. Or should the focus be on wanting new challenges, growth, etc.?
Originally asked when the coronavirus pandemic will end, but the concept is the same for any situation.
always do your best
I think we can simplify this as well. The way to simplify it is to say something like that because I believe fewer words are better. Fewer words are more powerful.
So you can answer that question by saying something, and by the way, I’m answering your question. I’ve done the first two. I am the third
So, you could say something like, you know, I joined this company. I expected that I would do this and that. You know, that’s what happened with COVID, companies got desperate and they started scrambling to survive.
And, you know, everyone has to adapt to the current situation. Now, the fact is, they’re accelerating, but think about it from the perspective of talking about it during COVID times and at the height of COVID. Now that that’s over, you might just stop and say to them, you know, I want to do that kind of work, what I think I was hired to do and where my skills are, so, focus on the kind of work you want to do.
Another way to look at it is because we’re in the middle of the COVID outbreak, so the only reason I’m looking is to find something that better aligns with my skill set. I was hired to do one thing or another. The company responded by changing my role, changing my responsibilities, things like that so they could survive.
It makes perfect sense to me. But, you know, we’re in a situation now where we all have to get over it. This may continue for some time.
I don’t want to be in the wrong job forever. I want to be with another quality company doing the right job, like the one I’m with now, but doing the right job that will leverage my skills. So this might be how you respond in the event of another outbreak.
