Stupid Resume Mistakes – Target
What is the general answer to the interview question “Why do you want this job?” Now, there are two ways to answer this question. My personal favorites are the questions I received from several clients during my search. My personal favorite is The New York Times, and in the first HR interview – first interview, about 20 minutes in – someone always asks this question. I would prepare candidates by explaining, “Why would I want to work at The New York Times? Why wouldn’t I want to work at The New York Times? It’s a great organization with a great reputation and an impact on the world.”
It’s not just the words you say that change the world, it’s the passion with which you give your answers. So, give them some juice. Put on a show for them. It doesn’t burden you with anything. Before the interview, you do some research on some of the company’s strengths, and then you’re basically prepared for them.
Another way of answering the question is less effective, but I think it’s basically aimed at arrogant employers. If you’re dealing with a difficult person and they’re just applying pressure during the interview, they end up saying, “Well, why do you want to work for us?” The response is, “I’m still learning about your organization. I’m not ready to commit that I want to work here. I’ve heard a lot of great things, but I need to know more to feel like I really want to work for you.”
They’ll say, “What do you need to know?” You should prepare some questions for them like, “What are their expectations?” In my video course, “The Ultimate Job Interview Framework,” you’ll ask some questions at the end of the interview. It can be found on Udemy, but the easiest way to find it is to visit JobSearch.Community. If you happen to be a Skillshare member, you can also order on Skillshare. The book is also available on Learndesk, and you can order the paperback or Kindle book on Amazon. So, this is how I solved this problem.
