You can now book this safari camp using Marriott points

Travelers with Marriott Bonvoy points who love wildlife and adventure will be pleased to know that they can now book a stay at the Autograph Collection’s first wildlife camp. Following a soft opening in September last year, Mapito Safari Camp officially opened on January 20, located near Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, one of TPG’s 2026 Best Travel Locations.
Guests can choose to stay in one of the camp’s 15 tented suites, all with private decks. Each tent has a retractable roof, so you can sleep under the stars and wake up to the vast blue sky. The property also has a two-bedroom villa with a private dining room, swimming pool and kitchen.

You probably won’t spend too much time in your accommodation, though, as the hotel offers a variety of activities to experience the surrounding area. Take a yoga class, book a spa treatment, lounge in the pool or go on a night safari with a professionally trained local guide to spot lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and giraffes. Then, at sunrise, float over the prairie in a hot air balloon and enjoy the beautiful scenery from the sky.

Design elements throughout the hotel draw on Tanzanian craftsmanship, including handmade fabrics, beadwork and glassware produced by regional artisan cooperatives—many of which are led by women. This appreciation for the land and culture also comes through in the food. The on-site Njia restaurant serves international cuisine using fresh ingredients, while Boma and Mapito bars showcase local flavors through food and handcrafted cocktails.

Marriott said the hunting camp is being run in a community-minded manner, renovating a nearby health care center and employing local residents. Additionally, its wildlife guides adhere to strict wildlife viewing rules and regulations to avoid disturbing the ecosystem.

As you might expect, staying here isn’t cheap. Nightly prices in 2026 will start at around $1,900, but could rise to around $2,500. Points rates are also high, starting at about 179,000 per night. But as you observe wildlife up close and study constellations using an indoor telescope, you may decide it’s worth your time.
Travelers should be aware that the U.S. State Department has issued a “Level 3: Reconsider Travel” advisory to Tanzania due to increased unrest, crime, terrorism threats, and increased targeting of LGBTQ+ people in Tanzania. Following the October 2025 elections, political violence occurred in many cities in the country, including Dar es Salaam. We have spoken to tour operators, hoteliers and trip planners who are still promoting tourism to Tanzania and say the safari experience has not been affected. We recommend that you go directly to your destination, do not linger in the city center, and book with reputable hotel brands and travel agencies.
