Can I reapply for a job that was rejected?

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
This is a very common scenario for people. In this case, a person sees that the job they were rejected for is still advertised four months later and wonders if they should reapply. Here are my thoughts.
I’m Jeff Altman, big game hunter. I coach people. I work in career and leadership coaching.
I’m the head coach at JobSearch.Community. Basically, what I do is help people find jobs, manage and lead, recruit more effectively, and a bunch of different things that translate to being more effective in the workplace. This is a situation that someone introduced to me. A job has been advertised for four months.
They were rejected not long ago, but they believe they qualify. Will you reapply? Now, the mystery of all this has changed? What has changed from that initial rejection to now? Were they rejected at the resume stage, in which case an improved resume and explanation of resume changes could come into play? Were they rejected because of an interview? Again, the question is, what’s the difference between four months ago and now? How can one be more qualified than four months ago to justify investing time in a company? That’s the mystery here, and I don’t know the answer. I would say that if it’s on a resume basis, it would make sense to rewrite the resume to demonstrate suitability, an explanation for the rewrite, and maybe make changes to the LinkedIn profile.
If it’s based on interviews, probably not. Now, I want to clarify something. If, in two years, the position happens to come up, some changes may occur.
Even a year later, there are some changes. But four months? Probably not. So, your choice depends on the situation, find out what is right and take action.
