Porter Airlines launches non-stop service to Nashville

Porter Airlines Canada will be landing in Nashville this spring.

The Toronto-based airline, best known for its spokesperson Mr. Raccoon Porter, will launch daily flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) to Nashville International Airport (BNA) on May 11. The flight will be operated on a De Havilland Dash 8-Q400 aircraft with 78 economy seats.

“Nashville is a great addition to our growing network of destinations,” RJ Steenstra, president and CEO of the Port of Toronto Authority, which operates YTZ, said in a statement. “The service will benefit from the new U.S. Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance facility, which is set to open at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in the coming weeks and will provide greater convenience for our passengers.”

Members of Alaska Airlines’ Atmos Rewards loyalty program and American Airlines’ AAdvantage program can earn and redeem points (and, in some cases, tier points) on certain Porter-operated flights.

American is the second-largest airline by BNA seats, according to flight schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium.

BNA Airlines joins Porter’s network as the airline expands its U.S. footprint. New nonstop flights from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Miami International Airport (MIA) launched in January, and nonstop flights from YOW and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) will begin later in February. MIA and PHX are both US hub airports.

On May 14, Porter will launch a new daily Q400 flight from Montreal Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

The new BNA and BOS routes come as rival Air Canada steps up its game at YTZ’s home base in Porter. The Star Alliance airline will launch U.S. flights from YTZ to New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) on March 29. Flights to BOS, Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) will follow in June and July.

Porter will compete with Air Canada on new BNA and BOS routes. However, Air Canada offers BNA service from Toronto’s main airport, Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ), rather than YTZ.
