Since Google downplays SAT scores when hiring, what is more important to them?

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
I read an interesting article on BusinessInsider.com that Google recently changed their criteria for hiring.
For years, they have made an organizational commitment to using SAT scores as the primary criterion for selecting employees. They decided to lower the value of SAT scores as a criterion because they found no correlation between scores and company success.
What replaced it?
Well, by digging into their data, Google was able to discover that “the most innovative and happy employees feel they have autonomy and a strong sense of purpose, so Google is looking for more than just the best grades and test scores.”
I’ve been telling companies for years that they would never hire Steve Jobs. Would you hire Donald Trump or Barack Obama? I suspect not, although the reasons vary.
I believe it is important for organizations to lead a regular review process of the highest and lowest achievers at every level of the organization and track the common success criteria they have and the results they are producing.
By studying data from your organization over the years, you will see common predictable patterns of success and failure and hopefully replicate success and avoid failure.
