Celebrate Valentine’s Day at these airports

Roses are red and violets are blue. At the airport around Valentine’s Day? Here’s what you can do.

If you’re flying around Valentine’s Day, you’ll be able to find last-minute gifts at some airport shops (many of which are pre-packaged), as well as love-themed meals and cocktails at various airport restaurants and bars.

To keep things interesting, many airports also host Valentine’s Day events in the terminals before and on the official date.

Dallas Love Field

Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)

The marriage certificate pop-up counter in the baggage claim area of Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) Terminal 1 is now open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Monday, February 16. Couples traveling to Las Vegas to get married on or around Valentine’s Day can skip the trip to the county clerk’s office downtown and pick up their marriage certificate (or vow renewal certificate) at a pop-up window at the airport. Then, they can go directly to the wedding venue

Charleston International Airport (CHS), South Carolina

A Valentine’s Day-themed mural created by Girls Who Paint Murals of Charleston, South Carolina, will be on display this week in the concourse of Charleston International Airport (CHS). CHS also opened a pop-up flower shop at the Charleston Flower Bar to provide bouquets to those who may not have time to go to a flower shop.

Dallas Love Field (DAL)

At the Dallas Love Field (DAL), Crafty HeART Cart is launching this week, offering Valentine’s Day-themed coloring pages and crafts like button making. On Thursday, February 12, there will be a Valentine’s Day-themed pop-up photo booth, and on Friday, February 13, DAL will create a wall of free flowers for passengers. This week, airport mascots Lovey and Lovett will make a surprise appearance and hand out candy and promotional items.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)

Today, artist Steve Teare is giving away a free selection of illustrated Valentine’s Day cards with messages of love and friendship at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Terminal 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. PHL passengers will be able to color their own cards and buttons. On Friday, February 13, PHL volunteers will be distributing carnations to passengers at the information desk and throughout the terminal starting at 11 a.m. until all 1,000 flowers are used.

Additionally, on Valentine’s Day, therapy dog Maki (from PHL’s Tail Wagging Brigade) will greet passengers with a special Valentine’s Day-themed “Pet Booth” sign at the D/E security checkpoint from 3 to 5 p.m.

Long Beach Airport (LGB), California

Long Beach, California (LGB) has invited poet Brian Sonia-Wallace to return to the outdoor lobby plaza on Friday, February 13, with a desk, a typewriter and some prompts.

“I’ll be asking passengers to share their stories and write poems for them, whether they have a Valentine’s Day or a Valentine’s Day of their own,” Sonia-Wallace said.

Find the poetry table at LGB from 10 a.m. to noon.

Orlando International Airport (MCO)

On Friday, February 13, Orlando International Airport (MCO) will host its annual Valen-fly event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hyatt Atrium Level 3 Terminal A/B to provide travelers with sweet Valentine’s Day gifts

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX)

From Friday, February 13 to Monday, February 16, the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) will host the heart-themed “I ‘heart’ JAX” Photo Station.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

On Valentine’s Day, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) will have a craft table set up outside the children’s play area near the top of Gate A from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jett, the airport’s sea otter mascot, will be at your table from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. for hugs and photos. Elsewhere in the airport, SEA Pups will be handing out Valentine’s Day cards, while airport pathfinders and information desk volunteers will be handing out holiday candy throughout the day.

Even if you’re not flying, you can be a Valentine’s Day surprise at the airport

If your loved one is flying in to visit you on Valentine’s Day, be a sweetheart and check to see if your airport is on the list of airports that offer boarding passes to non-ticketed visitors.

If airport is on the list, think of all the (relationship) points you’ll accrue by showing up at the gate with flowers, some chocolates, and a big hug.
