Roses are red and violets are blue. At the airport around Valentine’s Day? Here’s what you can do.

If you’re flying around Valentine’s Day, you’ll be able to find last-minute gifts at some airport shops (many of which are pre-packaged), as well as love-themed meals and cocktails at various airport restaurants and bars.

To keep things interesting, many airports also host Valentine’s Day events in the terminals before and on the official date.

At the Dallas Love Field (DAL), Crafty HeART Cart is launching this week, offering Valentine’s Day-themed coloring pages and crafts like button making. On Thursday, February 12, there will be a Valentine’s Day-themed pop-up photo booth, and on Friday, February 13, DAL will create a wall of free flowers for passengers. This week, airport mascots Lovey and Lovett will make a surprise appearance and hand out candy and promotional items.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)

Today, artist Steve Teare is giving away a free selection of illustrated Valentine’s Day cards with messages of love and friendship at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Terminal 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. PHL passengers will be able to color their own cards and buttons. On Friday, February 13, PHL volunteers will be distributing carnations to passengers at the information desk and throughout the terminal starting at 11 a.m. until all 1,000 flowers are used.

Additionally, on Valentine’s Day, therapy dog ​​Maki (from PHL’s Tail Wagging Brigade) will greet passengers with a special Valentine’s Day-themed “Pet Booth” sign at the D/E security checkpoint from 3 to 5 p.m.

Long Beach Airport (LGB), California

Long Beach, California (LGB) has invited poet Brian Sonia-Wallace to return to the outdoor lobby plaza on Friday, February 13, with a desk, a typewriter and some prompts.

“I’ll be asking passengers to share their stories and write poems for them, whether they have a Valentine’s Day or a Valentine’s Day of their own,” Sonia-Wallace said.

Even if you’re not flying, you can be a Valentine’s Day surprise at the airport

If your loved one is flying in to visit you on Valentine’s Day, be a sweetheart and check to see if your airport is on the list of airports that offer boarding passes to non-ticketed visitors.

If airport is on the list, think of all the (relationship) points you’ll accrue by showing up at the gate with flowers, some chocolates, and a big hug.
