Is your career being targeted?

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter

EP 3143 Do you think your years of experience and loyal service make you untouchable? Think again. In this episode we reveal “Safe Employment Trap” Revealing how artificial intelligence is quietly erasing the careers of the most dedicated professionals

Welcome to episode 3,143 of No BS Job Search Advice Radio. I’m your host, Jeff Altman. Open your LinkedIn feed now and you’ll see a ton of “Open Jobs” hashtags.

Thousands of experienced professionals were suddenly sitting at home, completely unemployed. Why do highly committed employees with decades of professional experience suddenly find themselves completely shut out of the market? This chart shows what many people call professional branding. It represents a flawed mentality that a stable, predictable career guarantees lifelong security.

For workers under 50, this complacency blinds them to massive industrial relocation until this so-called safe path collapses. Companies that previously relied on offshoring to cut costs are now actively deploying artificial intelligence to eliminate routine cognitive labor. Aggressively sticking to a predictable, risk-averse persona actually makes you the easiest target for algorithmic replacement.

Technological extinction has happened before. In the 1980s, the IT industry moved from older programming languages such as OS Cobol to a new transaction system called CICS. CICS is a server system that allows applications to handle many requests simultaneously.

One tech recruiter in New York actively refused to adapt to the shift. He called me to complain that his customers only wanted CICS developers, but he insisted on stocking up on OS Cobol candidates. I told him that his client didn’t care about his candidates’ outdated skills.

He went completely bankrupt within six months as the market relentlessly prioritized efficiency over traditional talent. Consider how banking used to work. You’ll need to line up and hand your check to the teller, who will then manually verify your identity against a paper signature card.

Today, consumers and business managers alike appreciate the speed of interacting with machines and the convenience of self-service. Whenever an emerging technology offers a faster, cheaper alternative, retaining outdated skills is tantamount to career suicide. Now, the same rapid obsolescence cycle is actively sweeping the modern white-collar office environment.

Today, vendors deploy advanced artificial intelligence or software that mimics human learning to visually analyze candidates during the interview process. The software measures completely abstract metrics, scanning your facial movements to determine your perceived authenticity and overall confidence level. These algorithmic judgments are then compared directly to established behavioral profiles of the company’s top performers.

Modern artificial intelligence acts like an autonomous gatekeeper, making the final decision to disqualify a candidate long before a human recruiter sees a resume. Your professional survival is entirely your responsibility. Blaming your employer for difficult coworkers or lack of training resources is a complete waste of time.

Years away from the job market can build up career cholesterol, leaving you unprepared for the rigors of the modern recruiting process. Adopt a bacon mentality. Abandon your comfort zone, take calculated risks, and proactively capture emerging industry trends before they become mainstream.

This chart shows how early adoption creates huge advantages. I gained membership number 7,653 on LinkedIn because I discovered an interesting idea and jumped on it at the absolute beginning of the curve. Look at your own day-to-day tasks and proactively and accurately outline how machine learning (systems that automatically improve based on data without being explicitly programmed) will disrupt your specific role.

In this age of algorithms and automatic screening, the only real career security comes from continuous, proactive adaptation. If you want to stay ahead of the curve, visit jobsearch.community to become an insider and get my guidance and resources. I’m Jeff Altman, and I’ll see you next time.
