Two steps for phone interview: Pin it like a professional
Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
I know you’re there trying to get that sweet new show. However, getting the initial phone interview can be tricky.
This is a transaction. Today, hiring managers are being criticized. They are looking for quick ways to eliminate a bunch of resumes to find the perfect match. This is the arrival of the phone screen. After a quick resume review, they will call you to see if you have ribs to go to the next round.
It’s a cold truth: their goal is to eliminate candidates at this stage. So, how can you get past the doomed phone screen and enter the last round? I’ve covered you. Follow these professional tips and you will be fine.
Tip 1: Being ready is a real deal
Treat phone interviews like people in person. Research firm nonsense. Practice your answers to frequently asked questions. Keep your response clear and compelling. Show you that you have completed your assignment and that you are the strategic thinker they need.
Tip 2: Set the scene
Since you are at home, create a professional atmosphere. Grab a quiet space, close the door and eliminate all distractions. Keep your phone silent. Basically pretending you’re ready to shake this in the office.
Tip 3: Laser Focus
Listen carefully to each question. Before answering, they have zero questions. Don’t stroll or get stuck. Solve the problem directly and target your answers.
Tip 4: Boost the charm
This is a great opportunity for you to show off your awesome personality. Use a warm, enthusiastic tone. Walk around to draw out your energy. Share the true story of showing off your abilities. Basically convince them that you will be a great culture.
That’s all I need for a phone interview to win, my friends. With the right mindset and preparation, you will show that you will need to develop to the next level. Now get there, rock those calls!
