Jeff Altman, Hunter, discusses what recruiters look for when scanning, but won’t look for it. This is from the Archives (2014). 5 years ago, I stopped recruiting and stopped doing this. Any work mentioned during the show was filled long ago.

Recruiters know you don’t know: They’re not watching all these screening videos

I left for a few days and came back last night. I quickly worked hard to finish the preparations for this show.

So what I decided to do was review the article I’ve read, which was obviously the answer to the Quora question. If you are not familiar with it, it is a service, Quora. Quora is a website where you can ask questions and people can give you answers.

The question asked is, what is the important information they focus on when recruiters browse a bunch of resumes for candidate screening? Now, Facebook’s engineering recruiter Amber Benjamin offers an answer, having previously worked for LivingSocial, Google and Expedia. This is a good answer, very detailed. You can find it on Quora if you want, but I will summarize it for you.

Because fundamentally, I think she covers a lot of key points. . . I believe it is her, and if not, I’m sorry. Amber covers many of the key points I covered when answering this question. So I just thought I would provide an answer in summary form.

One thing Amber mentioned is someone’s latest character. Therefore, generally speaking. . . She said that I usually try to figure out what the person is currently in and why they might even be interested in new characters. Have they been fired? Have they been fired? Do they only play roles for a few months? Is this their recent experience? Have their recent experiences been linked to the position she hired? Then, this brand identification is company recognition.

She calls herself a company snob. I’m just looking for, is the company’s brand a well-responsive company? Does this person have a career development? Are their responsibilities getting higher and higher? Does their title make sense? Responsibility, of course, also experience reflects what she is looking for? When doing keyword searches, I got a lot of resumes that were in no shape or form, indicating that this person has the skills I was looking for for this client. The plan manager never manages the plan every day.

Java Developers The term Java did not appear on their resumes, nor among Ruby developers, and Ruby was a course when we were looking for people with years of experience. These are all things that we as recruiters tend to look at the context gap. Explanation comes in handy.

So, for example, women often take time to give birth to newborns because of the way the world is. They will begin the process of raising children. Is there such an explanation? Have you set up a company? Failed? If there is some explanation for what is happening to you, that would be a huge help.

Do you have an internet? And, for example, you know, if you include links to your Twitter feed, github, Dribbble account or links that reflect what you do outside of work, I think it’s a huge help when looking at your resume. For some reason, I believe it is because of the concern about identity theft, people have removed their homes from their resumes. Now, this is not necessarily bad.

But, as I’ve been doing videos for many years and talking about them for many years, I’ll use this as an example. If you live in New York and you are applying for a position in Chicago to argue, and you have a New York phone number, and that’s everything on your resume. Actually, let me reiterate.

If you live in New York and are looking for a job, but you move to New York and have a Chicago phone number, the employer doesn’t know you are in New York. So you have to make it clear that you are from New York. Therefore, absolutely include your address to prove that you are in a general position.

Your residence status, if you are someone with an H1B or F1 visa, do you think we would ask us that all we have to do is waste time? You know, spelling resumes, and looking for terms that can still be passed through the spell checker if spelling is wrong. It does not take long to perform such an assessment. When everything was said, Amber said it would take her less than 30 seconds.

Yes, I will agree. I think it is definitely less than 30 seconds. I think on one of my podcasts, I said it to me for five to six seconds.

It took her longer. I’m indeed watching education. She really didn’t.

Maybe that’s the essence of the position she recruits. But I love seeing people who have a quality school are always better than those I’ve never heard of or have never heard of. If they work in a university with a brand.

format. Let’s not be crazy about formatting. You know, she talks about certain types of positions.

She likes Pinterest. You know, what I usually think of is that when I massage them later, there may be problems with the pdfs resume. Just make a resume.

Do not use templates. They are in pain. They are the pain of massage. What I tend to do is that if you want to email me I will check the email and nd

Applicant tracking systems don’t like them to be candid about it. And all you do is cause difficulties. You have. . . Well, other things I don’t really pay attention to are personal reasons, personal details.

Sometimes people sign up for marital status or already have one. . . They will include a photo with very few photos. They attach the cover letter to their resume. Frankly, the attachment never opens.

I will read the body of your email and then open the attachment to the body of the email to tell me that I really want to do the job. I’ve never done such a job before.

What recruiters are looking for when scanning, and don’t look for it

I will never open my resume because my clients pay me to find someone with a specific experience, not someone who wants to do the job. Therefore, it is recognized that time is precious to everyone. Now, she talks about something she doesn’t like.

I’ve mentioned resume templates. They are annoying, ugly, and painful. So, a number template, just type it.

If you like what this template comes with, that’s great. But, just use words to create your resume that follows that template and format. She refers to the ridiculous page.

I feel the same way. For example, if you are in a consultation and you have eight to nine pages of resumes and six pages of resumes, you can edit them. I don’t care how many tasks you have in your career.

Edit it. No one cares about what you did five years ago. Emphasize recent work.

Minimize older jobs. I would be shocked if you were employed based on a job you did five to six years ago. As a result, don’t waste my time.

I think she believes it, too. Goal, get rid of them. All they do is help you disqualify yourself.

Although some of my guests at work search radio stations talk about the advantages of mailing resumes or value proposition letters. She hates them. I hate them, too.

Don’t bother. As far as she is concerned, I’m sure of one of the issues. . . Well, I know that in my case it is the same. We cannot parse resumes into our system.

Yes, I can scan it. I can create a PDF from what you send. I won’t do it.

So it goes straight into my trash. She also talks about the exaggerated titles that she can’t stand. I agree with her.

Because the truth is, people find it. Do you think we won’t check the reference? What do you think we won’t study your background and find out the truth? Of course, we are. The reality is, once we find out you are lying to us, it’s like a Godfather movie.

You died to me. You died to me. I will never pay attention.

I’m sure she is the same. So, at the end of the day, honesty is crucial. It is important to show your background in a way that the recruiter considers attractive and understandable, and reflect your background well.

And, if you ignore these things, everything will always happen is that your resume won’t get the results you want. You need to join us as a recruiter (whether a company or a third party) to market yourself in a way that works for you. You know, this post written by Amber is about Mashable, and I believe its title is, let me win you the title.

Recruiters will notice your resume at first glance, and four things don’t matter. Again, I’m Jeff Altman, the big hunter. I hope you have a good time and I hope you have a great week and I will see you soon.
