4 Best Folding Phones (2025), tested and reviewed

Other folding phones need to be considered
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 priced at $1,100: Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip7 (7/10, wired recommendation) is second only to Motorola’s Razr Ultra. I like more camera quality from Motorola’s flip phone this year than Samsung’s (a huge win against the Razr), but the Flip7 can still capture beautiful photos and provide better video quality if that’s your thing. Samsung’s latest flip has a larger front screen, although you still have to skip some hoops to make it useful. For example, you need to install an app called Multistar to add any app of your choice to the cover screen. The battery life of this phone is also light and it works hard to last all day. The Razr Ultra still only lasts for a day, but I feel like I have to plug in that much. And, it was a little warm when my taste downloaded. This is a nice flip phone, but I prefer Motorola’s flagship this year.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is $1,700: The only reason to consider the Pixel 9 Pro folding now is if you see it being sold. Google’s Pixel 10 Pro folds right around the corner, and you’d better wait and see new features. That said, we saw the Pixel 9 Pro folding to $1,499 in a major sales event, which is great for the price you get. It may not be as slim as the new Galaxy Z Fold7, nor is it lightweight, but it’s still a slim device with a large front screen that feels like a regular phone. The 8-inch interior screen is excellent, and the triple-camera system delivers excellent results, although not As Great Pixel 9 Pro series. Read our best pixel phone guide for more information.
Motorola Razr+ (2025), priced at $1,000: Technically, Motorola has a third phone in its latest RAZR lineup: RAZR+ 2025. However, it’s almost the same as last year’s RAZR+ 2024, with fresh colors and an improved IP48 rating and titanium-fixed hinges. It is in the awkward middle position, though. It’s not as affordable as the standard RAZR, and it provides a nice experience for the money. But this is not As Flagship as the Razr Ultra. It’s also the only lineup without a speeding camera. I usually like telephoto zoom lenses, but super fast is very convenient on flip phones for group selfies. If you are considering this model, it’s also worth considering RAZR+ from 2024, as you’ll see some nice discounts throughout the year; it just lacks reinforced hinges and IP48 ratings.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 priced at $1,345: The Galaxy Fold6 (7/10, cable recommendation) is Samsung’s sixth-generation foldable phone and will be released in 2024. In this version, Samsung adds a wider front screen that feels like a regular smartphone, although not as wide as the Galaxy Z Fold7. I don’t have multitasking on phones like OnePlus Open, and the aspect ratio still limits some apps to display multi-pane views, such as Gmail, unless you rotate your phone to the landscape. Now finding it has a successor, it may not be easy to find, but if you find it sold for under $1,400, it’s worth considering, especially since Samsung offers long-term software support.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 $900: Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip6 (7/10, cable recommendation) may be better than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip7 Fe from 2024, a new “budget” fold-flip phone introduced by the company along with flagships Flip7 and Fold7. That’s because the Flip7 Fe is flip6 with a Samsung Exynos processor instead of the Qualcomm chip. We haven’t tested FE yet, but you may be able to find a good deal on Flip6, which may make it better than the Flip7 Fe. The performance can even be better.
Oppo found N5 Flip for $1,277: You can think of it as the spiritual successor of OnePlus Open. (Both companies are owned by BBK Electronics.) Sadly, in the United States, the United Kingdom or Europe, it is not available. When it opens, it’s the world’s slimmest book folding style, only 3.6mm. The display is excellent, and it has the highest specifications like the inner part of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, not to mention the 80-watt wired charge for a quick top-up. However, the camera isn’t that great, and Oppo’s software is still clumsy and off-road.
Xiaomi Mix costs $899: Xiaomi’s first flip phone has a cute design, an excellent display inside and outside, long battery life and fast charging performance, and flagship-level performance, which makes a nice change, as flip phones usually have medium specs. It also has a solid dual-lens camera, opting for telephoto over super-speed shooting, which is more useful for most people. This software makes gatherings less; there is no IP rating and it is expensive, but I am happy with this flip phone. –Simon Hill
Xiaomi Mixed Fold 4 priced at $1,399: Xiaomi has only launched in China like its predecessor, and he promised to release a wider version for the Hybrid Fold 4 (although not in the US) at some point. It’s no much thicker than the Honor Magic V3 above, and the screen creases are more noticeable when you open it. Performance and battery life are impeccable, and it supports fast wired and wireless charging. There is also a multi-functional left-handed camera. But that’s not a huge upgrade to last year’s Xiaomi Hybrid Fold 3.Simon Hill

The Nubia Flip 5G is priced at $499 (£500): This super-curved flip-foldable front has a stylish circular screen. The Nubia Flip 5G (6/10 Wired Review) is the most affordable foldable we’ve seen, among other discounts on other models. Sadly, the front screen isn’t very practical, and it’s a noticeable average performer with limited processing power and battery life. The software is also outdated and we are concerned about Nubia’s update policy. It may also not work for all U.S. operators. But for people who are keen to try foldable on a limited budget, Flip 5G is one approach. –Simon Hill
