Thousands of educational institutions that use the popular ED-Tech platform canvas to assign courses, score tests, and design course plans will soon get more AI capabilities in the coming months.
Dustrancure, the parent company of the platform, is part of a series of industry-wide collaborations, and has established a new partnership with OpenAI, the program that will enable Learning software to leverage OpenAI’s technology to build more AI experiences for users.

The company explained that teachers will get AI-driven personalized, feedback and evaluation data, for example. “Regular and Low Value Tasks” will be automated, and students will experience more “personalized, adaptive learning journeys” by interacting with AI’s other assignments and assessments.
Mixable light speed
Canvas’ first collaboratively designed AI tool is a new “LLM-enabled homework” feature, an additional homework option for teachers, allowing them to create classroom chatbot experiences for students, customize how students interact with students, receive learning goals from them and prompt GPT-like tools. The instructor can then use LLM’s insights to evaluate student submissions. “This feature provides students with a meaningful way to teach and effectively use these tools within a high-quality teaching framework, thereby encouraging critical thinking and supporting advanced skills,” said Shiren Vijiasingam, Chief Product Officer of Guidance.
Anthropic, the maker of Chatbot Claude, announced the integration with Canvas’ learning tool, which will be available in June to use Claude directly in the canvas platform while doing coursework – users are still able to enable Claude (and other integration tools) with OpenAI partnerships. Overall, the largest players in AI choose to make substantial investments in educational applications of technology, including teacher tools, student skills building, and a free national education and training program in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
