Citigroup Points are now transferred to American Airlines: How long does it take?

Citi’s Thanks Rewards Program has just added American Airlines Aadvantage as the latest transfer partner for its three reward cards.

The news is part of the unveiling of the new Citi Layer Elite Card (see Price and Fees). Existing cardholders Citi Layer Premier® Card (See Rates and Fees) and the CitiPrestige® Card (No longer available) can also be transferred to the U.S. forward.

Information on the Citi reputation card has been collected independently by Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

There are currently no other major transferable credit card currencies that work with the Aadvantage program, which makes Citi Points even more valuable.

Why You Should Transfer Citi Points to Aadvantage

How to transfer Citi Points to Aadvantage

When you log in to your Thanks for your rewards account and select “Point Transfer”, the American Airlines Aadvantage program will be one of the transfer partner options at a 1:1 interest rate.

To transfer Citi points to Aadvantage, click the blue Continue button and use the sliding scale to select the number of Citi points to transfer. Remember that Citi requires transfer points in increments of 1,000 points, and each transfer requires at least 1,000 points.

You also need to enter your Aadvantage number and confirm.

You will then be taken to the confirmation page where you have to confirm the number of points you wish to transfer from Citi to American Airlines. Check the details carefully, as point transmission cannot be reversed.

How long has Citi moved to American Airlines?

In our tests, points were transferred from Citi’s Thanks Rewards Program to the American Airlines Aadvantage Program. This is amazing news for anyone looking to redeem their Citi points immediately through the Aadvantage program.

Citi noted that the point transfer to Aadvantage “is often done within 24 hours, but the process can take up to five working days.”

Now, it’s an exciting time for current and quasi-Citi Thanks Rewards members as Citi has launched a new Strata Elite card and added top U.S. airlines as transfer partners.
