Claudia Gould

After leaving the Jewish Museum in 2023, Claudia Gould joined the Shaker Museum in Chatham, New York as the next director.

The Shaker Museum has one of the most important cultural series of vibration materials in the world. This is in the process of building a new $30 million flagship space designed by Seldorf architects, whose recent projects include renovating the Frick collection in New York.

The name of Shake Wine comes from the tremor during ecstasy worship, is a Christian sect that originated in the 18th century and spread to the United States. They are known for their common living and celibacy, belief in gender and racial equality, as well as backup architecture, music and furniture.

In a telephone interview ArtnewsGould said she was excited to “build the museum from scratch” and the task was “a completely different challenge” compared to reorganizing the organization. Gould was seeking to “move the needle without moving the task” in response to this new challenge, asking herself “how to push things in a truly unexpected way, but it’s also right. ”

Gould previously directed the Jewish Museum in New York from 2011 to 2023. During that time, she oversees massive renovations, adds endowments, and creates interdisciplinary programs. Prior to her tenure, she worked at the Philadelphia ICA and the Artist Space in New York.

“I’m so happy to be here, and, it’s a very unusual move for me,” Gould explained her career trajectory. “If people know me, they know [this move to the Shaker Museum] Completely understand my passion for design and architecture and how I bring it to every institution I work for. I’ve been working at the intersection of these fields and that’s where my passion lies. I hope to bring this sensitivity to the Shaker Museum. ”
