Bermudair launches services from Laguardia and Newark airports

Two of the largest airports in New York City are heading towards the new airport in Bermuda.

Leisure airline Bermudair will land at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in October, moving from the northern suburbs to the city’s main airport.

Bermudair said Thursday that the Bermuda-based operator will start flying to EWR’s signature dark and storm cocktails from Bermuda’s LF Wade International Airport (BDA) on October 26.

In three days, it will have its first flight from BDA to LGA. And, on December 18, Bermudair’s new subsidiary Anguillair will launch two flights from Anguilla’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) on Thursday and Sunday.

Bermudair will provide EWR from the BDA twice a week on Thursday and Sunday and serve the LGA twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday. The airline flies a mixture of E175 and E190 aircraft.

As part of the network transfer, when its EWR and LGA flights begin, the operator will end services at White Plains (HPN) in New York (north of New York).

“Expanding our New York area services is an important step for Bermudair,” Bermudair founder and CEO Adam Scott said in a statement.

It is unclear how the smaller airline enters two highly coveted airports in Laguardia and Newark.

LGA’s takeoff and landing rights are governed by strictly regulated slots, and EWR’s runway time is equally competitive. Bermudair declined to disclose the new LGA slots and EWR runway times required for these flights.

This expansion is in doubt about the future of Bermudair. BDA’s operator Skyport sued the airline for “millions of dollars” of unpaid airport fees in July, local reports said.

Bermudair was linked to North American cities in 2023 as a full-service airline. Subsequently, its strategy evolved to offer a more traditional dual-stage load product on its four E175 and E190S.

The airline’s network is gradualizing. In addition to changes in the New York area, Bermuda terminated its services at Charleston International Airport (CHS) in South Carolina on October 26 and ended planned data from the aviation analytics company Cirium exhibition on December 14 at Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford. It ended its July flight to Providence Rhode Island TF Green International Airport (PVD).

Bermudair currently has no loyalty program or participation in any program.

The carrier will be the only airline connecting LGA to Bermuda. It will compete with United Airlines’ EWR-BDA route.
