In a new greenhouse, after a long winter, the sun wakes up – huge

In the northern climate, winter sometimes feels like procrastination forever. The new animation directed by Mitchell Keys involves the feeling of euphoria and brightness that accompany the first day of spring. Although his short film “Springrise” is only about a minute, it goes back to the journey of the sun rising and higher, as if waking up from hibernation as people cheer.
Hothouse, an apprenticeship program promoted by the National Film Board, invites a small number of participants to create ultra-short animated shorts each year. It aims to create animations quickly and flexibly while emphasizing creative and technical excellence, while 2025 marks its 15th edition. You can watch all of this year’s projects on the NFB website, as well as dozens of projects from the past.
