Should you book in cash or redeem 85,000 points certificate?
If you want to maximize the 85,000-point certificate, TPG recommends comparing the cash price to the point price. According to TPG’s September 2025 valuation, Marriott Hotel’s points are worth 0.7 cents; therefore, 85,000 points are worth $595.
So if the hotel accommodation is only $250 or 70,000 points, you won’t maximize your reward certificate, as this will only put your redemption value at 0.36 cents per point, which is much lower than the TPG’s valuation.
Of course, there are other personal notes when redeeming the free night certificate – but on paper, a “good” redemption of the 85,000-point certificate would be a room that is at least $595 after tax.
We recommend using the Flexible Date feature on the Marriott website to determine the most favorable nights to redeem free night certificates.
Bottom line
