See the highlights of Wayne Thiebaud’s first British museum performance

In terms of themes and sensitivity, no artist is more American than Wayne Thiebaud, who painted food and traits in post-war culture that combined the wide-eyed worship of pop art with signs of refinedness. Before starting to showcase his work in galleries in the 1960s, Thiebaud worked as an illustrator and designer, including animation work and military graphic design for Walt Disney Studios during World War II. He then began a peculiar career from the Bay Area, where he died in 2021, shaping his entire American home before he was 101 years old. Artnews Thiebaud’s introduction outlines his life and work. )
Starting October 10, Thiebaud will be the subject of his first British museum exhibition: a survey called “Wayne Thiebaud: American Still Life” held in the Courtauld Gallery in London. The show includes loans from private collections and institutions cakepicture above), Whitney Museum, San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, and more. The exhibition will be accompanied by a 1965 print titled “Wayne Thiebaud: Delights”.
Below, see some highlights from the Courtauld Show, which will last until January 18, 2026.
