Bryan Sansivero Forgotten House in “American Abandonment” – Huge House – Huge

In many parts of rural America, the population is declining. Low birth rates, aging residents and growing or closed industries, trends for young people to move to metropolitan areas to work and have more diverse cultural facilities. As of 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that there are more than 15 million abandoned homes across the country that range from foreclosure to structural problems to deaths of residents for numerous reasons, and no one can bear the responsibility for the home and its furniture.
Photographer Bryan Sansivero feels very strongly documenting and exploring forgotten residences. His new book will come from the craftsmen, The United States is abandonedexplore deserted houses in 200 stunning images across the country. From interior decorations spreading with clothes, toys, small knife edges and decoratives to empty farmhouses drooping towards the prairie, he captures a storytelling of a spectrum phenomenon.
Sansivero’s practice also revolves around portraiture, which led him to capture his own methods of these once occupied houses. Although no one, their mysterious story and vernacular character resonate with aging partition walls, overgrown shrubs and forgotten objects.
Images range from atomized, troublesome exterior walls to everyday interiors. “These spaces are often scattered with dust, mold and creepy creepers, and occasionally house unique artifacts: tiger skin rugs, monumental bicentennial piano or mannequin collections,” the publisher said. “To sum up, this photography collection is a time capsule – a creepy reminder that everything we have is temporary and will eventually be forgotten.”
