Five arts and cultural nonprofits join the New York City cultural institutions group

The Cultural Institutions Group of New York City (CIG) offers its members five new cultural nonprofits: the Bronx Children’s Museum, the Louis Armstrong House Museum, the Noble Maritime Collection, the Noble/Puerto Rican Tourism Theater (PRTT) and the Arts Space in Brooklyn.

NYC rarely adds CIG membership, the last expansion that happened five years ago. Weeksville Heritage Center became a member of the CIG in 2019, and its latest addition was the 1997 Jewish Heritage Museum. Mayor Eric Adams first promised to expand at his city address last January.

CIG was founded in 1869 with the American Museum of Natural History. Its institutions operate in city-owned buildings and receive financial support from the city, including capital investments. Many of the city’s museums are part of the program, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA PS1, Harlem’s Studio Museum, El Museo del Barrio, Bronx Museum of Art and the Queen’s Museum. The total number of smoke increased by 39 in these five.

Each of the five new CIG agencies of the City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) receives annual support and energy subsidies. Going forward, they will now receive annual operating subsidies.

In addition to the exhibition, Indians also support artists through the Colene Brown Art Award, which comes with an unrestricted grant of $10,000, while Artfp is an open program that helps artists achieve exhibitions in their project rooms and corridor spaces. The nonprofit serves about 130,000 people each year.

Headquartered in PRTT’s South Bronx and Manhattan, founded in 1967, is now considered one of the country’s first bilingual theaters and is the oldest institution in the group, while the Louis Armstong House Museum opened in 2023 in Queens, the museum is the most recent establishment. The Noble Maritime Collection on Staten Island was founded in 1986, and the Bronx Children’s Museum opened in 2005 and serves approximately 325,000 children and families each year.
