Southwest Airlines heads north and announces its flight to the last border.

Southwest said on Thursday that Dallas-based airlines will start flying to TED Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) in the first half of 2026 or next June.

The airline will serve ANC from its large bases at Denver International Airport (DEN) and Harry Reed International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas.

Southwest will schedule its schedule to ANC later in October, the carrier said.

ANC joins McGee Tyson Airport (TYS) near Knoxville, Tennessee; Giuliana International Airport (SXM); St. Thomas Cyrus E. King International Airport (STT) in the Virgin Islands, U.S.; and Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa, California (STS), as the new destination announced this year, will join the Southwest Southwest Map in 2026.

Amid the profound changes in the southwest, growth has risen. The airline began charging its first bag fee in May and will abandon its old open-ended policy in January 2026, including allocated seats, including a super premium option. It was also in January 2026. It also creates new international partnerships, with CEO Bob Jordan repeatedly suggesting that long-term international flights, quality cabins, and perhaps top-notch.

“Everything is on the table,” Jordan said at an industry event in Washington, D.C. in September.

Southwest Airlines will compete with Alaska Airlines on the DEN and LAS routes of ANC, aeronautical company Cirium shows. United Airlines also flew the ANC-DEN route.
