How to Market Yourself as a Job Seeker – The Insider Tip

Jeff Altman, “Big Game Hunter.” I’m called the Big Hunter because I’ve been searching for leaders and employees for organizations for over 40 years. Today we will talk about what a headhunter does at work.

The answer is that they are doing business development work to identify clients they want to hire. How did they do it? Well, there are a number of different methods, but the main one is cold calling. They are building networks.

They are trying to find people who are willing to give them their names, phone numbers, and/or email addresses in order to contact those who are recruiting. But more often than not, they’re doing what’s called telemarketing. They present themselves on the phone as someone who has the skills and abilities to help the organization fill the position.

For now, I’m just going to simply say that telemarketing works. This is the most effective way for a salesperson to sell. They may get leads in a variety of different ways, but it’s the phone call that drives them to make the sale.

You need to do the same thing. How do you get these leads? There are many different ways. You know LinkedIn.

15 questions to prepare for your next C-level interview

Have you considered Data.com, Spoke or Zoominfo.com? These sites all give you the hiring manager’s name and title, so that if you were to submit your resume to an organization, you could use a backdoor to contact someone and present yourself as a different person than the resume submitted to the applicant tracking system or the resume submitted or recommended by others. Even if you just leave a voicemail, they can hear you on the phone. This is an opportunity to present a case for yourself.

So, again, just want to encourage you, pick up the phone. Don’t rely solely on applicant tracking systems or emails or even referrals. Reach out to people and let them get to know you.

They can sense your passion, enthusiasm, and excitement for what you’re doing just from your tone of voice. This is Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I hope you found this video helpful.
