I’ve interviewed thousands of people. First as a recruiter and now as a coach. One thing I noticed right away is that people who turn interviews into more of a conversation rather than a formal interview are much more productive. Why? Now, I’m not telling you to laugh or tell jokes or anything like that, but there is a very effective way of communicating that you as the person being interviewed can turn into a conversation where you can ask follow-up questions to answer their questions, making it effective.
