“De l’amour à la mort” by artist Valentin Fougeray

This book brings together abstract photographs and poetic fragments by artist and photographer Valentin Fougeray. Fougere’s practice involves using color as vocabulary and prioritizing evocation over description. Fuggeré attempts to capture something that is disappearing through a soft blur of color, capturing its sensitive echoes. In the process, he attempts to establish emotional resonance and evoke memories that are sometimes long-buried. For Fougere, photography is a poetic, sculptural, sensual space. The lack of stable subject matter leaves room for free and intimate appropriation. love till death is Fogre’s first book. It is designed to take readers through the different stages of the love cycle. However, from the first page, Fouget makes it clear that this is “neither a manual nor a truth” but “an emotional path”:
“We turn the pages of a love story: a dazzling encounter, intimacy, an initial rift, separation, loss and then the emergence of a new form of self. The images do not seek to illustrate; they embody inner states, shaping emotions. Color, light and diffuse textures become the language of desire, love, fear, lack, tenderness, collapse…”
