“Liberation Portrait” by photographer Stas Ginzburg

Brooklyn-based photographer Stas Ginzburg has taken a series of photos documenting people attending marches, rallies, and Pride gatherings across the United States. Ginzberg is a queer refugee from Russia whose work focuses on the LGBTQIA+ community and activism. He has been photographing portraits of queer, trans and gender non-conforming people for the past five years. The resulting series includes over a hundred portraits of LGBTQIA+ individuals, presented in simple yet intentional compositions that embody visibility, defiance, and authenticity. Together, these images form a living archive – documenting a community on the threshold of profound political and cultural change. At a time when queer and trans lives face new threats of legislative erasure and structural violence, this work occupies space as both witness and counter-narrative, preserving a lineage of activism and radical presence in spaces of public dissent.

Stas Ginzburg entered our 2025 Booooooom Art & Photography Book Awards and was shortlisted.
