A guide to using Atmos Rewards points to book American Airlines flights

If you fly American Airlines frequently like me, your rewards strategy doesn’t have to be limited to American Airlines AAdvantage miles.

Say hello to Atmos Rewards, the joint loyalty program between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. I firmly believe that American Airlines loyalists should keep an eye on Atmos rewards, as I find this currency to be extremely valuable.

Since the airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance, you can use Atmos Rewards points to book flights on American Airlines – often with generous redemption rates.

Don’t be intimidated by booking through partners. It’s as easy as running any awards search.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Atmos Rewards to book American Airlines flights.

Step 1: Determine which American Airlines flight you want to take

In this example, I’ll walk you through booking a one-way economy class ticket on American Airlines’ nonstop flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

First, I navigated to American Airlines’ website to see what was available.

I found several options for the date I wanted to fly, but the price of $555 was a little too high for me. While I could explore award travel options, I didn’t have enough AAdvantage miles.

Thankfully, I have another option: Atmos Rewards. For context, I collect Atmos Rewards points by transferring money from my Bilt Rewards account. (Bilt points transfer to Atmos Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.) You can also collect Atmos Rewards points by adding an Atmos Rewards credit card to your wallet.

The first step was to find the flight I wanted to take. The following steps take place outside of the American Airlines website.

Step 2: Log in with Atmos Rewards and navigate to Alaska Airlines’ booking website

From here, I logged into the Atmos Rewards website on the right-hand menu.

I then navigated to Bookings and selected Alaska Airlines. This brings me to the booking page for Alaska and its Oneworld partners.

I entered my origin and destination airports and clicked “Use Points” to find redemption options for Atmos Rewards points.

Finally, I pressed “Search Flights.”

At this point, it’s worth noting that you may not always find award availability for every flight. While many American Airlines flights can be booked using Atmos Rewards points, this is not guaranteed. If you are unable to find availability on your preferred travel arrangements, please adjust your dates and route.

Step 3: Find American Airlines flights on the Atmos Rewards website

I filtered by “nonstops only” and found the exact flight from CLT to SFO that I found on the American Airlines website.

I immediately found the exact same three flights labeled “operated by American Airlines.” Instead of paying $555 for the flight, I could redeem 17,500 Atmos Rewards points and pay $19.

TPG would consider this a good use of Atmos Rewards points. Since our November 2025 valuation puts Atmos Rewards points at 1.5 cents each, we think those 17,500 points are worth about $263. When I added the $19 tax, the total value came to $282, $274 less than the $555 I paid for this one-way economy flight.

Step 4: Select your flight and complete your booking

I decided to leave from the CLT at 9:35am and selected “Add to Cart” to continue.

The rest of the process is as easy as booking any other award ticket.

I reviewed my cart details and pressed “Proceed to Checkout.”

How to Earn Atmos Reward Points

As I mentioned above, I collect Atmos Rewards points through Bilt Rewards. I hold Bilt MasterCard® There are no transaction fees to earn rental points, but you don’t need to have a credit card to take advantage of the Bilt program.

Bilt Mastercard information is collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

However, the three co-branded Atmos Rewards credit cards (issued by Bank of America) allow cardholders to earn a lot of points. Here’s what you need to know:

bottom line

Booking American Airlines flights using Atmos Rewards points doesn’t have to be complicated or confusing.

Of course, keep in mind that reward availability is not guaranteed, and you’ll need to check TPG’s valuation to make sure you’re getting a good deal for your hard-earned points.

If you follow the steps above, you should be able to redeem your points easily.
