Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter offers advice on how to handle the job interview question, “How Do You Deal with Stress?”
38 Deadly Interview Mistakes to Avoid
Hello! I’m Jeff Altman, big game hunter. I’m known as the “Big Hunter” because I’ve been searching for leaders and employees for organizations for over 40 years. Today, I want to talk to you about a simple and elegant question that employers ask during interviews. It seems simple, but it is a subtle question. The question is how do you deal with stress? Now, they’re not trying to find out about your exercise habits or your last two vacations.
They’re trying to figure out how you handle stressful situations in the office, and the right answer to that type of question is basically just talk. . . You know, it’s common for stressful situations to arise in our jobs. What I try to do is quickly prioritize different situations. I delegate things that really don’t require my time to others and focus on those things where my time is most important.
So, for example, if one of my users or someone in my department really needs my attention, then I deal with them head-on. I try to delegate things to others who can do it, and by offloading these things, I can really devote myself to the situation. I also go to the gym three times a week during my breaks, but what really matters is how I distribute my work.
Lowered my salary expectations! Can it be fixed?
So they’re not trying to really know about your vacation or everything that goes with it. They try to figure out if you can quickly assess a situation and delegate or transfer to others things that don’t really deserve your attention and focus your attention on things that really deserve your attention. That’s my advice for today.
