If you’re considering adding Venture X to your wallet, here are answers to eight frequently asked questions.
Can I apply for Venture X as an existing Venture cardholder?
One of the most pressing questions involves existing Capital One customers — specifically, whether you can apply for the Venture X if you already have a similarly named Capital One Venture Rewards credit card.
The short answer is: Yes, you can apply for a Venture X card as an existing Venture cardholder.
For example, Nick Ewen, senior editorial director at TPG, applied for the Capital One Venture Rewards card shortly after it launched in 2021. Less than a year after applying for Venture Rewards, he was approved for Venture X.
However, Capital One recently updated its rules regarding Venture Series Welcome Bonus eligibility, introducing a 48-month rule limiting annual fee reductions. It functions similarly to American Express Family Restrictions.

Thankfully, the Venture family’s upward trajectory was allowed. So if you plan to open a venture card with a lower annual fee, you’ll want to work your way up. For example, apply for VentureOne, then apply for Venture Rewards, then apply for Venture X.
That’s great news, because it means you can claim Venture

What are the application restrictions for the Capital One Card?
Capital One has strict rules regarding application deadlines. Typically, you can only be approved for one Capital One card every six months.

Capital One is also sensitive to recent credit inquiries. Rumor has it, though, that Capital One might make it easier to get approved for the Venture X, even if you’ve applied for multiple credit cards recently.
Be strategic when applying. For example, you might want to consider the Chase credit card before the Venture X. That’s because this card will fall under Chase’s 5/24 rule, which means if you’ve opened five or more personal credit cards across all banks in the past 24 months, you may not be approved for a Chase credit card.
So if you’re approaching the limit of five new cards and Venture X will push you over that limit, you may want to apply for a Chase card first and then apply for Venture X.
Finally, some Capital One personal cards (including Venture

As an existing Venture cardholder, can I upgrade to Venture X?
A Capital One spokesperson said existing Venture cardholders whose accounts are in good standing can contact the issuer’s customer service desk to find out whether they are eligible to upgrade to Venture X.
Each applicant’s situation will be different and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. During TPG’s testing with Capital One, the phone agent offered to upgrade most of our Venture Rewards cards to Venture X. However, they reiterated that cardholders are not eligible for the welcome bonus.

Namely, one of our employees was informed that they were not eligible to upgrade their Venture to Venture X after being rejected as a new applicant. As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.
Of course, it’s also important to evaluate whether you should upgrade or apply as a new applicant.
Upgrading typically has zero impact on your credit score. In many cases, you’ll even keep the same account number. However, you will lose a substantial welcome bonus.
That being said, even if you qualify for the upgrade, you may want to apply directly to Venture X.
