Türkiye Miles&Smiles reduces award prices to Hawaii by 150% and increases other domestic award prices by 50%
The Türkiye Miles and Smiles program has always been a popular program for visitors to Hawaii. Bonus space is notoriously hard to find, even with tools like Seats.aero. Still, redeeming 7,500 Turkish miles (or more recently 10,000 Turkish miles) for a one-way flight on United Airlines between the continental U.S. and Hawaii has always been an award travel bucket list item.
Well, the airline has just poured cold water on this wish list item and all other Turkish domestic Miles&Smiles awards operated by partner airlines. As Loyalty Lobby first reported, Turkish Airlines released and implemented a new domestic award chart for its partners, including Star Alliance airlines like United, on December 3 without notifying its members in advance. To make matters worse, domestic award flights to and from Hawaii are now priced separately from other domestic flights.
Below is an overview of the December 3rd changes.
| One-way nonstop flights within the U.S. to and from Hawaii with partner airlines | Other one-way direct flights with partner airlines from the same country/region | |
|---|---|---|
|
25,000 (previously 10,000) |
15,000 (previously 10,000) |
|
|
40,000 (previously 15,000) |
22,500 (previously 15,000) |
|
|
50,000 (previously 20,000) |
30,000 (previously 20,000) |
The increase in award flights between the continental United States and Hawaii means it almost always makes sense to book through another program. This is especially true since these awards are currently unavailable for booking through Turkish Miles & Smiles. After all, I haven’t found any award flights available between the continental United States and Hawaii in the past few days, and Seats.aero doesn’t currently show award flights from Turkey between North American destinations.
However, you may find that it might make sense to redeem your 15,000 miles for a one-way nonstop flight within a country. This could be a transcontinental award from United or Air Canada, or a Thai Airways flight within Thailand.
Finally, it is worth noting that Turkey’s Inter-Regional Partner Awards Rankings and Türkiye Operations Awards Rankings remain unchanged. Especially after Türkiye recently awarded millions of miles to those who completed the Six Continents Challenge, many believed a devaluation would occur. Hopefully, the increase in domestic rewards will reach the point where Miles&Smiles is currently devalued.
