Africa’s first EDITION hotel opens in Cape Town

Marriott’s stylish Edition brand sets its sights on Africa. South Africa to be exact.
It has just been announced that the Cape Town EDITION will open in 2026 on the city’s famous V&A Waterfront. This will be the first opening of an EDITION hotel on the African continent.
When it opens, the hotel will have 142 guest rooms and suites, restaurants and bars (including a rooftop bar), a spa, swimming pool, and meeting and event space. There will also be “curated social spaces that reflect the city’s rich heritage and cosmopolitan energy,” according to Marriott’s announcement.
Renderings of the hotel showcase a prime beachfront location and contemporary design by Shanghai-based Neri&Hu and Cape Town’s own StudioMas. From the hotel, guests will be able to enjoy views of Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, stroll along the new public promenade along the water’s edge, or enjoy entertainment at the nearby V&A Waterfront Amphitheater.
“Cape Town is a city that embodies a spirit of creativity, diversity and vitality – qualities that are inextricably linked to [Edition’s] “The V&A Waterfront is an iconic location and we believe this project will set a new standard for luxury hotels in the market,” Karim Cheltout, Marriott International’s senior vice president of development for the Middle East and Africa, said in a statement.
Marriott currently has a number of hotels in Cape Town, including the Westin and the Autograph Collection, but none are more stylish than the EDITION.
