First Look: Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt

The opening of Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt in May 2025 will mark Kimpton’s debut in Germany and bring the brand’s cutting-edge design, lifestyle-based hospitality offerings to the financial heart of Frankfurt. Frankfurt is a popular layover city with plenty of direct flights to and from the United States, but the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt’s central location, warm service and Bauhaus-style decor will make guests want to spend more time in this underrated city. Additionally, you can use IHG One Rewards points to book your stay here.
Here’s what I experienced during my two-night stay, and why the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt made the list of Best New Hotel Openings in 2025.

first impression
The entrance to the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt is unassuming, sandwiched between two other buildings and easy to miss. In fact, my family of four walked past it without noticing the door.
Step inside and you’ll find a sleek, modern aesthetic derived from the early 20th century Bauhaus style, a minimalist style that relied heavily on pops of color, geometric shapes and shimmering metals. The result is stylish without being pretentious, charming without being loud.

That’s not to say you need to be an art connoisseur to appreciate this hotel. I didn’t even know what Bauhaus was until I lived here, and I loved exploring the subject in the coffee table books I found in the room.

Room
Despite its small footprint, the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt has a total of 155 rooms and suites spread over five floors.
My one-person suite (approximately 500 square feet) included a bed, a bathroom, a desk, a wardrobe, a smart TV and chairs, as well as a separate sitting area with a sofa and additional TV. Eight-foot-tall wraparound windows overlook the surrounding streets.

However, the blackout curtains did an excellent job of keeping the room dark, allowing me to sleep peacefully and escape the effects of jet lag – until the construction crew decided to start drilling outside at 7am, which, alas, is one of the risks of living in the city.
Each room comes with free tea, coffee and mineral water, as well as a Nespresso coffee machine, electric kettle and a minibar that is checked and replenished daily (for a fee). The minibar was empty enough to keep small items such as takeaways and water bottles refrigerated.
My room feels modern yet laid-back, with an interesting mix of colorful patterns and materials, but a few little details kick the luxury up a notch. Inside there are gorgeous robes and fluffy slippers, heated bathroom tiles, and even a yoga mat (perfect for stretching after a long flight). According to the hotel’s website, the rooms also come with “luxury linens” (although the sheets are almost also Very smooth for my taste) and pillow menu.
The only downside is that there are some awkwardly designed elements in the bathroom (but the design here is particularly interesting, with pops of color and a nice navy blue tiled floor). Although the space is relatively spacious, countertop space is limited, the shower feels cramped, and the soap dispenser is difficult to access. There was also no place to hang a towel near the sink, and the round knob was difficult to turn with wet hands.

Dining at the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt
The Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt has two bars and a restaurant.
A buffet-style breakfast is served daily at the Lazuli Bar and Kitchen on the fifth floor, stocked with common items such as breads, meats, cheeses and fruits.

My group found the breakfast to be a delicious and convenient way to start a day of exploring – but the walk-in price of 42 euros (about $49) per person is pretty pricey for what you get. If you plan on enjoying the breakfast buffet, you can save a lot of money by booking a breakfast-included rate; on my date, it cost an extra $28 per person per night.
Lazuli also offers evening drinks from Wednesday 6pm to Sunday, and the rooftop terrace is open during the summer.

Don’t miss the Anni Bistro on the first floor, which serves German-style haute cuisine in a relaxed environment that embodies European café culture.

The service was excellent and my group (which included a vegetarian and two picky eaters) all gave the food a unanimous thumbs up. Highlights include schnitzel ($38), vegetable couscous ($19), feldsalat ($15) and pumpkin soup ($14), as well as the Moriarty and Clarified Gin Basil Highball ($15 each).

Finally, May, the lobby bar, offers “a selection of specialty coffees during the day and carefully crafted drinks in the evening.” Guests can enjoy free cocktails, mocktails or wine during daily social hours from 5 to 6 p.m.

Facilities and services
During my stay, the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt seemed to be packed with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Everywhere I go, even if I’m just sneaking around and taking photos in an empty bar during off hours, someone asks me if I need anything.
In addition, guests can enjoy the following amenities:
- The fitness center is equipped with cardio machines, free weights and free weights.
- Enjoy a free drink during daily social hour from 5pm to 6pm in May
- Complimentary cruiser bikes for exploring: The hotel has two bikes, but staff can arrange more if needed through the hotel’s partner Frankfurt Bicycles.
- No pet fee: According to the hotel’s website, “Bring your furry, feathered or scaly family member…we have all the goodies you need to pamper your pet.”
- “Forgot. We’ve found it.” Plan: If you find you’re missing essentials, the hotel will provide free essentials like toothbrushes, shaving kits, phone chargers and adapters.

I just wish I could stay long enough to take advantage of all these facilities – and I have a pet snake so I could see what kind of reptile care facilities they offer.

Location and logistics
Part of the relatively new IV development, the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt has all the pros and cons of a business district: it’s quieter and less touristy than more popular European city centers, but there isn’t much nightlife.
However, there is plenty to explore nearby. Conveniently located between the historic Roman Forum and Frankfurt Main Station, the hotel is within a 12-minute walk of Frankfurt’s Old Town, the luxury Goethestrasse shopping district and the Kleinmarkthalle food market. The nearest Christmas market is just a few blocks away.

Getting here from the airport requires a 20-minute train ride on line S8, which costs €11 (about $13) per person; we saved by purchasing a group ticket for 4 passengers for €36 ($42).

How much does it cost to stay at the Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt and how to book

My studio suite started at €219 (approximately $255) or 55,000 IHG points per night, while the basic “Basic” room started at €170 ($198) or 36,000 points per night. Please note that if you add breakfast to your stay, the cash price will increase and you may not be able to use points to book a breakfast-included rate.
That works out to 0.55 or 0.46 cents per point, which is right close to our January 2026 valuation of 0.5 cents per point for IHG points. Since you probably won’t get great value points here, it might make more sense to pay in cash if your date is reasonably priced.
When you book a Kimpton Frankfurt hotel, you’ll need a credit card that allows you to earn bonus points on IHG stays and/or automatically earn IHG One Rewards elite status for value-added benefits. Some good options include:

Accessibility

The Kimpton Frankfurt Hotel offers wheelchair-friendly rooms with more space and features such as automatic door openers and accessible bathrooms, as well as elevators large enough to accommodate wheelchairs. There are also hearing accessible rooms with video doorbells.
However, I did not see Braille on the signage around the hotel, so it may not be convenient for guests with visual impairments. As always, TPG recommends contacting the hotel in advance to ensure it can meet your needs.

bottom line
The Kimpton Hotel Frankfurt puts guests right in the heart of all the city has to offer. Whether you’re here to explore the area or just need a place to rest your head on your way to another European destination, you’ll feel right at home when you stay here.
No, the hotel doesn’t offer a spa or pool, and Frankfurt may not have the lively nightlife you’d expect from other European cities – but this calm simplicity is part of its appeal. The hotel’s warm service, relaxed yet elegant dining venues and free facilities allow guests to enjoy an atmosphere of low-key luxury.
