If you’re a professional trying to be the best person for the position, you’ve entered a race to the bottom. Be better, be the best – that’s a trap because it’s subjective. This is a comparison. It invites the hiring manager to compare you to 10 other people and then haggle.
Don’t compare; differentiate. You have to move from a generalist title like Marketing Director to a niche authoritative title like Market Entry Specialist for a European fintech company entering the United States. Note the difference between the two.
