These works are fragile: creatures and time consist of a variety of mediums, including video, photography and installation.
Access to all 21C museums is free. The 4-foot-tall penguin housekeeper greets the visitors. But what about those penguins?
Each 21c location is assigned a specific colored penguin that embodies its city identity. Green was chosen to embody Bentonville’s spirit and the city’s commitment to retaining its natural lush green environment. These sculptures, made from recycled plastic, were created by the artists’ collective cracking art and are in a permanent exhibition in each 21c. Although permanent, it is by no means static. It’s not ignorant to find yourself facing one of these playful sentries when opening the doors of a hotel room or an existing elevator. They are also often invited to the hotel restaurant table heads as honor dinner guests. Penguins can remind you of the importance of sustainability and environmental protection. The mission of cracking art is to increase awareness of environmental issues and use and abuse of natural resources by creating artworks from petroleum products.
