A recruiter told me they had three finalists and asked for more details to decide on the final one. Why do recruiters reveal the number of finalists? They can just ask me for details, right? Well, the reason is simple. From their perspective, all they want to do is apply pressure.

So they want to exert some pressure to show a desire to obey. The simple thing is, they want to see if the pressure makes you nice, gets along with other people, that kind of thing, rather than giving them a hard time. Because when someone thinks they’re a finalist, they’re the only one.
Now, there is a certain level of arrogance that sometimes comes across. So they want you to behave, they want you to worry, am I going to get this job or am I going to ruin it? So it’s very simple. This is a simple answer.
