What is your real job at work? I don’t care if you’re a bookkeeper, a bartender, or an accountant. No matter what your job is, I think your real job is to be a salesman. You either sell inside or outside. Bartender? You are upselling your customers. Accounting? You sell your value to people internally and make sure people understand your value externally, too.
Everyone is selling. The question is whether you pay attention to the fact that you are a salesman, because if you sit there like a fool, like a lump on the wood, thinking that your job speaks for itself, it doesn’t. That’s the truth. Your work alone doesn’t speak for itself. You speak for your work. You have to make sure people know it, it’s your job to sell it, and there’s value in selling it.
