How to avoid being laid off, restructured, replaced, laid off or laid off

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
EP 1750 The good economy has been going on for quite some time and is coming to an end. Even in good times, there are winners and losers among organizations, and there are winners and losers among employees within a company.
I’m thinking, these are the good times since the 2008 recession, man, it’s been a long recovery, one of the longest recoveries I’ve been through, I think it’s been one of the longest recoveries the United States has been through since its inception, and you know it’s going to end because they all end. I don’t know when, but even if this is not the current situation, they will realize that there are winners and losers on the organizational side, and therefore there are winners and losers on the employee side who are affected by the health of the organization. So I thought I’d make a video today about how to avoid getting fired, really, you’re out there and dig whatever you want to call her, bring it back and shoot it, you know how to avoid that, understand that there’s no guarantee that the company will go out of business. If an industry is taking a hit, you may be affected, just like in New York. Taxis are being replaced by Uber and as a result there are fewer opportunities for people and now people forget that truck drivers are going to be replaced by self-driving cars and that’s going to eliminate a lot of jobs but the ultimate impact is people need to be prepared and where you can minimize the impact of your work in the organization is something you can do proactively. What you really should be doing, so just to give you some suggestions of things you can do, the first one is to pay attention to what the politics are in your organization, who has the power, who has the longest tenure over you. Every organization has politics, I worked at a company years ago where there were two people who were really in charge of operations and unless you were beholden to them one of the bosses looked down and did your job and they listened to the boss and listened to what these two people had to say and it made no difference how successful you were at your job if you were on the good side of these two people and you know you have to be aware of how this kind of politics works and the power that every organization has over you so if you have people with power so if you are worried about continuing to focus on politics another thing is appropriate. You know there’s a saying about tall poppies and tall poppy people, that their people would come with machetes to chop up their tall poppies? In organizations the people who stay in some organizations are some who revel in having a tall poppy but in some organizations all they want is people who fit in with your good reasons to not stand out from the crowd and for me personally I can do that before anyone else you try to keep the job you want to keep the job. It’s something you have to do, not just once, it has to be part of your character’s activities. So if within an organization, what I know I’m good at is the concept of self-promotion, then as an employee of the company, you can create a brand for yourself outside of the organization. For example, when an employee says “Hi, my name is I work for Facebook or Google,” it’s laced with the names of Facebook and Google and images of the good old days at these organizations. That’s great. However, sometimes the importance of the organization is less prominent and the impact on the individual can be detrimental, so you yourself view the brand separately from your organization, complement it, not against it, but complement it, for example, when I do recruitment, you. I work for different companies. I worked for three different companies as a contractor for headhunting, and I called myself a “big game hunter,” which is a play on the headhunting concept, and I myself worked on selling my resume. I submitted my name, Jeff Altman, on behalf of the candidate, and the Big Game Hunters name honors the organization. The mistake I made was that I was a big game hunter and I didn’t know it at the time, but once I transitioned into coaching I no longer thought of it that way. This is also a benefit for me. It’s all about making me stand out in a field – not just the word, Big Game Hunter has thousands of videos and podcasts on all the current content. I help with all the articles I’ve read and all the books dealing with Jeff Altman’s big games. You can do this, you don’t have to be as visible as me, you can write articles for LinkedIn in the media and other platforms and start to stand out as a professional and, number one, get your current organization to respect you and number two, get recruiters to take notice. You may want to offer opportunities to you. Remember that people who achieve success are not always the smartest or the ones who work the hardest which is a good quality to have. People achieve success by being alert to opportunities. Sometimes internally companies will simply say, for you as a job seeker, these are the three ways you can be successful.
