In the surreal portrait, Rafael Silveira tends toward the Garden of Consciousness – Huge

Rafael Silveira’s surreal portraits show a scenic scene on the coral-like face above the shoulders, ubiquitous, without the summoning aspect of human consciousness besides the coral color, these portraits span the magnificent and weirdness. The Brazilian artist describes his work as a “deep dive of human mind”, blending flowers, landscapes and peculiar mixed features into guiding the humorous vision with a somewhat sinister background.
Sylvia’s upcoming solo exhibition, Agriculture Cosmica The gallery says that in the DCG contemporary, it is time to travel through “the fertile terrain of the subconscious”. “With a respect for popular surrealism and incredibleness, his work imagines thoughts as a garden where thoughts and images are sprouting wild flowers.”
Silveira works primarily in oil, using panels or canvas as surfaces, occasionally surrounding his work with ornate hand-carved wooden frames. Sculpture details of the frame, such as the anatomical heart in the “eye couple”, or the full eye look at the “crocodile’s tempo” (time vulnerability in Portuguese), read like Talismans.
Many of Silveira’s compositions start with traditional head and shoulder portrait compositions as a starting point, but besides the skin, we see distant horizons, such as in “magnetics”, or replaced by the heads of characters replaced by coral stems or pillars of fire. Other works completely ignore the human outline on the interesting flowers, which indicates eyes widening and expressions. Although human forms exude emotional autonomy when they merge with their surroundings, flora in works such as “OMG” and “Pleeese” are rich in awe and desire.
Agriculture Cosmica The exhibition will open in London on June 12 and will last until July 10. plural By embroidery artist Flavia Itiberê. See more information on the artist’s website and on Instagram.
