An IHG rewards Prime Minister credit card offers many benefits to travelers who often stay at IHG.

Only one benefit – an annual anniversary free night, valid for a night up to 40,000 o’clock – can easily provide you with enough value to prove that IHG Premier pays annually.

As long as you are a cardholder, you will also receive automatic Platinum Elite status. The card also offers a unique fourth night reward offer, which allows cardholders to pay zero points every fourth night to redeem the reward for four nights or more.

We generally recommend that applicants have a credit score of at least 670 to increase their chances of approval for this card.

Now, let’s see if the IHG Premier card is a good choice for you.

This matches the highest bonus we’ve seen on this card, although it does require an additional $1,000 minimum spend ($5,000, and the $4,000 threshold we’ve seen before). Only one (last year) welcome bonus for five free nights in the history of the card’s quotes (last year) and if you’ve been following this card, now is a great time to apply.

molecular

Please note that if you currently own any IHG personal credit card, or have received a welcome bonus for another IHG personal credit card within the last 24 months, you will be eligible for this card (or its bonus).

However, this rule does not apply to holding an IHG reward of one Premier commercial credit card (see rates and fees) or bonuses earned on that card. You also need to follow Chase’s 5/24 rules.

The annual fee for an IHG Prime Minister’s card is relatively small. However, the actual value of the card depends on whether you use these benefits frequently to justify the annual fee. Here is an overview of the card’s main IHG-related privileges:

Free Anniversary Night

Cardholders receive a reward night certificate, which is valid for one night hotel and is priced up to 40,000 points. The proceeds are annual and begin on the first anniversary.

Although IHG uses dynamic reward pricing, finding an attractive redemption option for your certificate is not difficult. For example, I have redeemed the free night certificate for the anniversary to stay in InterContinental Buenos Aires, InterContinental Madrid and Kimpton de Witt.

Note that you can use an unlimited number of points to close this certificate and use it for higher-priced attributes. For example, you can book a room of 55,000 with a free night and IHG reward account with 15,000 points.

Elite identity

IHG Rewards Platinum Elite members enjoy 60% of paid bonus revenue when upgrading orders with IHG Rewards, based on availability at check-in, welcome amenities and some other allowances.

After the next calendar year that spends $40,000 in one calendar year ends, there is a path to the diamond elite state before the next calendar year ends.

The fourth night is free

When you redeem four nights or more, you will pay zero points every fourth night. If you can find reward space for four consecutive nights in your favorite property, this may be a great way to extend your points further.

Of course, the value of this privilege depends on how often you redeem the frequency of IHG points for four nights or more.

IHG Hotels and Resorts

Other notable privileges

  • 10,000 bonus points after spending $20,000: After spending $20,000 in a calendar year, you will earn 10,000 bonus points and a statement credit of $100. According to TPG’s May 2025 valuation, these bonus points are worth $50; plus the declared credit, this bonus is worth up to $150. However, consider whether you actually spend $20,000 on your card during the calendar year, especially if you can put these purchases of higher-income daily expense cards on your day-to-day expense cards.
  • Get 20% off when purchasing IHG points: When you pay with an IHG Premier card, you can save 20% on purchasing IHG points. However, when IHG proposes points, this discount will not be the same as other discounts. Note that these points are considered unqualified and will not count to elite qualifications, so the value will be small for most cardholders.

These benefits can be a serious factor when choosing a new credit card. However, as described in the following section, using IHG Premier cards won’t get high returns on most purchases.

Win points on IHG

Hotel credit cards tend to be weak in terms of income, but this card has a high income rate at IHG hotels.

Katie Genter/The Points Guy

You will spend 10 points at IHG Hotels and Resorts. And, when you combine the usage card with the points you earned as an IHG Platinum Elite member, you will earn 26 points per dollar for most IHG stays.

Additionally, Card Members earn 5 points per dollar on travel, dining (including takeout and qualified delivery) and gasoline purchases, as well as 3 points spent on all other purchases.

According to TPG’s May 2025 valuation, this corresponds to 13% of the IHG stay, 2.5% of travel, and 1.5% of all other purchases.

These are good returns for these bonus categories, but are easily beaten by many other cards.

Redemption point on IHG rewards Prime Minister

IHG a reward has no reward list; instead, it uses dynamic reward pricing. The IHG website notes that nights start at 10,000, although we see nights as low as 5,000, such as Holiday Inn Express Shaoxing Paojiang.

Although there is no biggest note, the highest point I see is 120,000 a night (excluding six senses, which usually costs more).

However, even with IHG’s dynamic reward pricing, it is still possible to maximize the reward redemption of IHG. And, after a little search, you can usually redeem a bonus point for 0.5 cents per point.

You can also use points and cash for rewards. In some cases, this may provide good value. When you book this way, IHG sells you bonus points and then debits your account with all points.

It is also worth mentioning that IHG Premier’s fourth night no reward offer. TPG Credit Card Editor Emily Thompson uses as much of this privilege as possible to maximize her IHG reward points.

Finally, some travelers believe that IHG’s policy on power outage dates makes it one of the weaker hotel programs that reward nighttime availability. Please note the following for the terms and conditions of an IHG reward program:

There is no power outage date for bonus night, however, the room list is limited and will be sold previously.

So, while there is no blackout date itself, hotels can limit the number of rooms they can use for reward bookings.

Transfer points on IHG

IHG has more than 35 airline transfer partners, but we do not recommend using your point of view this way. The point is transferred at a nearly 5:1 ratio, which is located on the lower side. Additionally, it is well known that transfer from IHG takes a long time.

Katie Genter/The Points Guy

You can also transfer points to another IHG a reward member, starting at $5 per 1,000 points. However, for members of the Diamond and IHG Business Rewards Program, these transfers are free, with up to 500,000 points per calendar year.

If you are loyal to IHG, another hotel brand’s card may not be worthy of your consideration. However, another card can better meet your needs.

Is it worth it to reward the Prime Minister?

If you are a big IHG fan, you will easily get enough of the benefits of this card to justify the $99 annual fee. Anniversary nights alone can be paid for annual fees. However, those who only stay at IHG Properties occasionally may prefer a card with different benefits.

Bottom line

IHG One Reward is a great choice for loyal IHG travelers who want to maximize IHG Rewards.

After all, the card offers privileges like automatic Platinum Elite status, rewards for four or more nights, and a big bonus multiplier for IHG stays. Still, some people may find that this is not the one they travel and develop habits.
