Jane Birkin’s original Hermes Birkin handbag is one of the most iconic items in fashion and was commissioned to sell in Paris in Sotheby’s in July.
There is no public estimate for the handmade all-black leather prototype named after actresses, singers, models and fashion icons.

The original Birkin will be on display from June 12 at Sotheby’s New York office from June 12, then in Paris from July 3 to July 9, before leading the home’s online “Fashion Idol” sale on July 10.
