This is a dilemma with a lot of stress every day. Let me discuss some variables and give suggestions.
How to interview
Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, the big hunter. The question today is, should you accept LinkedIn connection requests from strangers? Now, let’s see first, a stranger has found you. For example, they may have heard of you at certain venues, for example, you are a speaker somewhere.
You are involved in an online group or an offline group. You are the secondary connection of the people they know. They decided to contact you.
Now, for those people, I don’t want a lot of celebrities to watch this. I simply say if you are one, you know, follow what your broker tells you. I simply put it, for some of you, there is an advantage, that you are open to the madman.
I also remind you that if the person behaves like a lunatic, you can stop them and end and cut off contact. So, I tend to encourage people to be more free. Now, for normal Jane or Joe, I would also say accepting connection requests.
This is why. The probability is that this person notices that you are a member of them or that you are Second level connection Give them to the people they have already contacted. So what they are trying to D is to expand their network.
And, at the same time, you are expanding your network. Now, I’m always reluctant to accept people with very few connection requests. Like my first connection request contact on Facebook and LinkedIn.
These are usually spammers. You know, because I have a big network and they are trying to access me. And I’m very obvious online.
So, I know what they are going to do Post on my wall on LinkedIn. So, you know, they are promoting their crap. So I tend not to accept new connectors, or somebody with profile pictures that are made in the aquamarine background, because these are often fake.
There is an exception occasionally, but most of them are fake. I Accept connection requests From people everywhere in the world, even if I am in the United States, people all over the world have reached out and I tend to accept these requests. Because again, if I find this to be a personal issue, I can always disconnect quickly.
For me, over the years, I tend not to connect with other recruiters to avoid my competition. I don’t want my competition to benefit from my connections. I’ve changed that over the past six months because, you know, it doesn’t matter.
I didn’t find a job for everyone. I’m trying to help people. That was my choice.
For you, I’m going to say that if they work for competitors of your company, in a role where they can access the information you want to share, it’s not necessarily a secret message, or a secret message that you don’t want to contact them. I don’t think you have any great secrets to do that. But, if you are uncomfortable, don’t accept it.
Don’t stop it. Don’t hide. no I do not Meet this person.
But I don’t accept it now. Give yourself some time to think about it and then use it as an unresolved request in your inbox. After a month, you can accept their forget requests and then be able to observe how they look online.
After all, the advantage of accepting connection requests comes from expanding your network. So if you want Contact people on LinkedInLinkedIn will only let you send messages to people connected to your first level and through the second level by using email and group. I think the group is still free.
They are tracking your behavior. And, if you don’t get a lot of responses, they will punish you. It’s better to connect with people than not so you don’t contact them using email.
You can direct messages to people. It’s better to do this. By accepting connection requests, you can also access these networks.
So, usually, I give this idea. . . Sorry, I remembered the thumbs up, please do it with a few warnings. The biggest thing is that if you don’t like individuals, you can always disconnect soon after. Hope you find this helpful and hope you have a good time.
