No BS Career Advice: June 8, 2025

“The best thing you can do in any decision-making moment is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is what.”
– Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report on the creation of new jobs +139,000. Higher than expected, but lower than what happened in the last year of the Biden administration. The difference is not tariffs or anything else you might feed. This is because government recruitment has stopped. When I read these reports in the past, I usually see +40,000 or so government work. Join it and report it as +179,000. In fact, there are -22,000 government jobs.
Healthcare work increased by 62,000, leisure and hospitality for $48,000, and social services for $16,000. Together, we have 126,000 of our 139,000 new jobs. Recreation and hospitality for restaurants and drinking places is +30,000, which means the rest may be camp consultants. This also means that LinkedIn users continue to find it difficult to find jobs.

The skills required to find a job are different from the skills required to complete the job. You may be good at your job, but job hunting, especially during tough times, is very different from being a good employee.
