Audemars Piguet Contemporary and Aspen Museum of Art jointly commissioned sculpture

Audemars Piguet Contemporary (APC) and the Aspen Museum of Art (AAM) have commissioned a new sculpture with Adrián Villar Rojas, which will be unveiled on Jura Mountain in November before heading to a later institution for the multi-pop exhibition in 2026.

Press release says (Unt title) Enemy’s language “To achieve similarities between paleontology and speculative memory” and “present a fictional history in which encounters with the remains of fossil dinosaurs may have triggered the earliest works of art.”

Rojas is an Argentine sculptor represented by Marian Goodman Gallery and recently exhibited works at the 21st Century Modern Art Museum in Kanazawa, Japan and the Pinault Collection in Paris.

The Jura Mountains are located within Vallée De Joux, a region marking the French-Swiss border and contain limestone formations containing the first study of Jurassic fossils.

APC’s Rojas co-delegation (Unt title) Enemy’s language This is the first dedicated art program by the Luxury Swiss Watch Company to present a commissioned artwork at the location (its hometown) and the first joint committee of the Aspen Art Museum.

APC curator Audrey Teichmann told Artnews When organizing committees work from artists, they assist in the establishment, research, development, manufacturing, news, other aspects of project management as well as finding partner institutions as it does not have its own exhibition space.

“It can be legal advice when needed,” Teichmann said. “It’s a very customized process.”

APC said it also provided “continuous support” to artists through its commitment to the second exhibition. “We have to realize that one-shot support is not the most important thing, and it is bringing the work to the attention of other curators, thus bringing a lot of viewers to broaden their horizons,” Teichmann said. “We need more exhibitions, long-term, longer conversations.”

This support includes storing commissioned artworks between the first and second exhibitions. “When you support the production of your work, you can’t just bring something to the artist’s shoulders without caring about how they will maintain that situation [of the] Work,” she said.

APC does not Artnews The joint committee’s specific financial figures, but did say in a statement that there was financial contribution, adding that APC and AAM “have realized artwork financially and curatedly.”
