Quick Action: Book only 1 round trip flight to earn a Southwest Companion Pass

Southwest Airlines’ companion pass, which allows you to bring a friend almost Free (you have to pay taxes and fees) on unlimited flights, is one of the most valuable assets in the world and miles. Often, it requires a lot of Southwest flights and/or credit card spending to beat one of these coveted passes, but sometimes, airline-run flash promotions allow you to earn companions faster.

From now until Friday, you can get a two-month promotional partner pass by booking a roundtrip flight. The following are:

  • Sign up here and then purchase one or two one-way flights by June 27. The base fare does not qualify for this promotion.
  • You must travel by August 31.
  • From September 8 to November 15, you will receive a valid promotional partner pass.

Usually, getting a peer pass requires more flight and/or credit card expenses. You must earn 135,000 eligible points in one calendar year or fly 100 eligible one-way flights to earn a companion pass for the remaining eligibility year and the next calendar year.

However, Southwest sometimes conducts promotions that allow members to earn shorter companion passes by completing easier tasks, such as making a round trip flight.

Even if you book your flight with Southwest Quick Rewards Points, you can qualify for this promotion.

“Reden Booking and Cash + Points Booking are eligible for this promotional offer” according to the promotional terms and conditions.

However, cash + points are usually not the best way to book a Southwest flight.

The terms also state that “flights must be purchased and/or changed during the promotion period and a new flight must be made between August 24 and August 31, 2025 to meet the terms and conditions of this promotion.” Therefore, if you book one or more qualified flights during the promotion period, you can register for the promotion and then rebook to win a partner pass. Keep in mind, though, that if your ticket was booked before Southwest’s recent changes, you could lose benefits like free bags if you rebook now.

Southwest Airlines’ companion pass is almost legendary in the world of points and mileage. It allows you to bring in extra guests for free (plus taxes and fees), effectively reducing flight costs in half. Whether you book your tickets with cash, points, or both, all your companions have to pay taxes and fees (from one-way $5.60).

One catch for the partner pass is that you can’t just bring anyone with you every time you fly. You must specify a companion in your Quick Rewards account. However, Southwest Airlines is still very flexible. You can change your designated companion to up to three times a year, and this rule also applies to promotional passes.

If you haven’t completed your summer trip yet, consider booking with Southwest Airlines. You can grab the valuable companion pass you use this fall – maybe for an epic road trip or leaf tour.
