Peek: Check out the Billion Dollar Waldorf Astoria New York Remodel

Waldorf New York is one of the most iconic hotels in the world. Its first iteration opened in 1893, and when it moved to Park Avenue in 1931, the location became the largest and tallest hotel in the world (at that time). It has since changed the way the hotel operates and what guests expect from luxury hotels.

Astoria new York also claims to have many “firsts”. This is the first hotel to have a phone in the room and it introduces the concept of room service. It even created some of the world’s most iconic dishes: Waldorf salad, red velvet cake and Benedict eggs.

Whether staying overnight or participating in big balls, it is enough to prove the significance of the hotel. Notable visitors include nearly every US president as well as Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth II.

But in 2017, the legendary hotel closed its doors due to years of renovation, which is said to cost as much as $2 billion. These renovations include converting 1,400 rooms to 375 and expanding the space for 372 Waldorf Astoria branded homes. The hotel is also completely re-energized with its most legendary features – all the way to the original metal and plaster. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill are undergoing renovation work to bring the hotel to life, while Interiors is from Pierre-Yves Rochon.

We’ve learned some details before reopening in September. The perfume company Fueguia designed an iconic scent for the hotel in 1833 called “301 Park Avenue”. Plus, the cocktail program was designed by legendary New York bartender Jeff Bell. There will also be a 30,000-foot Guerlain Wellness spa as well as beautifully restored event and meeting spaces.

How to book: Waldorf Astoria opens at $1,312 per night. By the end of 2025, there is nothing available for Hiltons with less than 600,000 Hiltons. If you want to visit this legendary hotel, you should wait until January – New York City is slower, when it was much slower (due to the cold and declining visitors from the festival, the city is slower). Reward availability then starts at 150,000 Hilton Honor Points with a cash rate of $1,100 per night.
